![]() “Gov. Chris Christie crashed New Jersey’s economy and crashed his own chances to be President. In 2012, he negotiated a bill that he called ‘an important step towards ensuring we have a great teacher in every classroom’ and now days after his candidate went after tenure, he dutifully does the same. Unfortunately, this won’t help one child get a better public education. Canceling teacher contracts and getting rid of tenure, which has never guaranteed a job for life, will not fix struggling schools. Improving educational outcomes actually takes what teachers unions like ours have been fighting for—fixing not closing schools with adequate funding, providing appropriate resources and innovating with proven programs that have worked to turn around struggling schools elsewhere around the country. Gov. Christie’s campaign to blame teachers instead of working with them, parents and community will ultimately fail the children of New Jersey.” Follow @DChieraM For more at the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey, visit www.aftnj.org.
